Dr. Dahl, a veteran mountaineer, has an interesting hiking
career, including summiting Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt. Elbrus in the Caucasus
Mountains in Russia (the highest mountain in Europe), and Popo and Ixta in
Mexico... as well as hundreds of less famous but equally arduous mountain peaks
throughout the world.
However, his most infamous climb was on a simple hike on New Hampshire's Mt. Washington in October 1999 that almost ended in disaster. Rescued from
near-death during a
sudden blizzard with whiteout conditions with hurricane-force winds, he was
interviewed by Associated Press and reported in newspapers and on network
television nationwide.
Subsequently, he was involved in a reenactment for The
Learning Channel, and all this publicity led to a new speaking career in venues
outside of medicine. Recently, with the support of Mark Victor Hansen of the
Chicken Soup for the Soul book series fame, Dr. Dahl is currently writing the
companion book:
